Revolution is the Struggle of Memory Against Forgetting: MLK and Collective Liberation

By Chris Crass

Martin Luther King, Jr. day is a celebration, honoring of, and re-commitment to Black Freedom struggle.

Never let ruling class cooptation make us forget that King was a Black socialist, mass non-violent direct action strategist, revolutionary with a pragmatic agenda of social transformation emerging from, and shaped by, one of the most powerful people’s movement in U.S. history, overwhelmingly generated out of women’s and young people’s organizing.

Never let ruling class cooptation take King, Rosa Parks, or any aspect of the movement away from us and the radicalism of its assertion that ‪#‎BlackLivesMatter‬ and that Black liberation is a catalyst for collective liberation struggle. “Revolution is the struggle of memory against forgetting,” the South African anti-apartheid movement taught us.

This is our history, our tradition, our leaders ruling class power wants us to cut off from.  ‪#‎reclaimMLKDay‬ ‪#‎Selma‬
