The Job of the Writer

By Alex S. Morgan

The job of the writer, the speaker, the artist, is to communicate. It’s only important that they like you enough to listen to what you’re trying to say.

Being liked isn’t the goal; being disliked, however, is counterproductive unless you’re disliked because of the message itself.

When you think it’s clear enough, ask yourself: What am I still hiding behind? What don’t I think they can handle? If they’re drunk, weary, or in pain, will they still know what I’m saying?

You will almost never have their full attention. Do the work on your end to make that matter less.
